Does Underfloor heating cost more to run?
UFH is remarkably cost-efficient. It uses 5-15% less energy to achieve the same comfort conditions as other forms of heating in a normal domestic height room. In areas with higher ceilings, the savings can be in excess of 20%.
|
How much will it cost?
Due to the fact that all buildings are different we don't offer a set price, instead we offer a free quotation service. This enables us to advise you of exactly how much the project will cost or even if an UFH is a viable option.
|
What guarantee do I get?
Heatwell offers a 10-year guarantee on the element and a one year factory guarantee on the thermostats which can be extended.
|
Will the system damage my carpets?
No, our carpet heaters are encapsulated in polyminium. Polyminium is polypopilene wrapped in an aluminum foil. This ensures an even distribution of heat and protects the element and carpet.
|
Can I install UFH heating into an existing building?
Yes, refurbishment normally doesn't present any problems provided the structure is brought up to present day insulation standards. There will be a need to remove any existing floor coverings to install our system.
|
Why should I consider using UFH in my new house?
Most people find conventional heaters unsightly and intrude on interior space and design. Open design, high ceilings and windows, such as in a barn conversion, benefit immensely from low convection and gentle radiant heat of UFH.
|
Is it as comfortable as it is made out to be?
Once you experience the draught-free environment and the even temperature of UFH throughout the house you will not want to go back to traditional heating. Low air temperature avoid drying the air as is caused by hot air from heating appliances. Summer comfort is extended all year round.
|
What is the minimum floor depth required?
Heatwell UFH system occupy 3-5 mm of floor height.
|
Is Heatwell UFH expensive to install?
The Heatwell UFH system is relative inexpensive to install. Given the fact that you will get a good return on your investment when you sell you property it is really an inexpensive investment in your comfort. Let us quote for your project and see for yourself.
|
Can I have UFH under any floor type?
The system can be installed under almost any floor type. Contact a Heatwell agent with your floor specifications for more information.
|
I am worried about potential problems with wood on heated floors.
Wood shrinks when dried by the heated floor in Winter and expand with moisture in Summer on the unheated floor. While screed does the opposite. Float the boards on the heated screed with a thin layer of 2-3 mm of foam in between. This gives the best heat output and keep wood flat.
|
Can I use Heatwell UFH system under a floating or suspended floor?
No. the system cannot be used in any installation where an air gap exists between the heating cable and the floor surface.
|
Can I cut the cold lead?
Yes. The cold lead can be cut or extended to suit the installation.
|
What does the thermostat do?
The Heatwell DCi thermostat range has the facility to monitor both floor and air temperature. The controller is programmable and allows the system to maintain a selected comfort temperature(perhaps 23ºC), when the room is likely to be used and a lower 'set-back' temperature (perhaps 18ºC) at other times.
|
Can I cut the heating cable?
NO! Under no circumstances should the heating cable be cut. There are three reasons for this.
- Cutting the cable will break the electrical circuit that enables the cable to function
- Repairs are possible but are difficult to execute and become a potential cause of future failure
- If a section of cable is removed and discarded and the circuit reconnected the remaining cable will operate above design temperatures and would be prone to premature failure
